IIT Gandhinagar invites applications from Indian nationals, Persons of Indian Origins (PIOs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), and Foreign Nationals to the posts of Assistant Professor (Grade-I/II), Associate Professor and Professor at IIT Gandhinagar (www.iitgn.ac.in) from exceptionally bright and highly motivated candidates with an established record of independent, high quality research and commitment to teaching in the Departments of Biological Sciences and Engineering (BSE), Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering (CE), Cognitive and Brain Sciences (CBS), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Earth Sciences, Electrical Engineering (EE), Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), Mathematics, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Physics. Foreign nationals (other than PIOs/OCIs) shall be offered contractual appointment for up to five years which may be renewed thereafter.

The Institute provides support to cover relocation expenses for a new faculty member and provides significant start-up research grant. In addition, the Institute provides Cumulative Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) of Rs. 3 lakhs for every block of 3 years to meet the expenses for participating in international and national conferences and paying the membership fee of various professional bodies and contingent expenses. Additionally, matching grants for Externally Funded Projects are also available as per the Institute’s norms.

Description of posts, scale of pay, age, essential qualifications and experience:

  • Assistant Professor(Grade-I)

    Assistant Professor (Grade-I)

    Pay Level 12 under 7th CPC. For direct recruits, minimum basic pay to be fixed at Rs. 1,01,500/- in Pay Level 12, Cell No. 01.

    Additionally, allowances as applicable shall also be admissible.


    Qualification: The candidate must have Ph.D. in a relevant area with first class or equivalent grades at the preceding degree and with consistently good academic record.

    Experience: Candidates must have at least three years of relevant teaching/research/industrial experience. Candidates with less than 3 years of post-Ph.D. experience may be considered for a contractual position of Assistant Professor Grade II in pay level 10/11 with appropriate basic pay based on the number of years of post-doctoral experience.

    Age: Preferably below 35 years.

    Assistant Professors (Grade-I) of IIT Gandhinagar having 3 years post-doctoral experience in the pay level 12 rendered in Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), AICTE approved institutions and institutions under the UGC may be considered for upward movement to the pay level 13A1. Such faculty members at Pay Level 13A1 shall continue to be designated as Assistant Professor Grade-I.

  • Associate Professor

    Associate Professor

    Pay Level - 13A2 under 7th CPC. For direct recruits, the minimum basic pay in this Pay Level shall be Rs. 139600/- (Pay Level-13A2, Cell No. 01) plus applicable allowances.


    Qualification: The candidate must have Ph.D. with first class or equivalent grades at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch with consistently good academic record.

    Experience: A minimum of six years’ teaching/industry/ research experience of which 3 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor (Grade-I), Senior Scientific Officer/Senior Design Engineer in a research organization or industry.

    In addition to these requirements, institute may use shortlisting criteria based on academics, research and outreach performance expected for the post such as number of PhDs supervised, courses taught, projects handled, patents and other IPs, and technology transfer etc.

    Age: Preferably below 45 years.

  • Professor

    Professor

    Pay Level - 14A under 7th CPC. For direct recruits, the minimum basic pay in this Pay Level shall be Rs. 1,59,100/- (Pay Level-14A, Cell No. 01) plus applicable allowances.


    Qualification: The candidate must have Ph.D. with first class or equivalent grades at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch with consistently good academic records.

    Experience: A minimum of 10 years post-Ph.D teaching/research/professional experience of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc, IIMs, and IISERs.

    Additional Criteria: In addition to these requirements, the institute may use shortlisting criteria based on academics, research, and outreach performance expected for the post like number of PhDs supervised, projects handled, patents, and technology transfer etc.

    Age: Preferably below 55 years.

    Upto a maximum of 40% of the posts of Professors at any given point of time will be eligible for pay level 15 (HAG) after 6 years of regular service in the pay level 14A subject to performance evaluation based on research publications, PhD supervisions, teaching and consultancy services etc.

    1. The candidates satisfying the requisite qualification and experience may apply online only. The applications received in response to the advertisement shall be scrutinized and only candidates, shortlisted from valid applicants on the basis of very good academic records (must have first class throughout from 10th onwards); quality of research/ relevant experience and criteria of Institute without compromising the minimum essential qualification/experience, shall be contacted for further recruitment process or called for seminar /interview.
    2. The candidates applying for the post of Associate Professor/Professor should have demonstrated leadership/capability and adequate experience of independent research/research in a specific area of specialization, as appropriate for the post applied for, in terms of guidance of Masters and Ph.D. students, sponsored research, publications in reputed journals and referred conferences, patents, laboratory/course development and/or other recognized relevant professional activities.
    3. The Institute strongly encourages applications from qualified women and reserved category candidates.
    4. Without any compromise on qualification, experience and competence, reservation will be applicable as per G.O.I. norms. The candidates belonging to the reserved category (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD) are required to attach the caste/category/disability certificate in the format prescribed by Government of India.
    5. The pay carries all other allowances as admissible to a Central Government employee stationed at Gandhinagar.
    6. The benefits, such as HRA (if Institute’s accommodation not provided), LTC, Medical reimbursement, Transport Allowance, children education allowance/hostel subsidy, contribution towards New Pension Scheme (NPS), re-imbursement of Telephone expenses, Research Initiation Grant (RIG), financial support towards National and International conferences etc. shall be permitted as per the Institute norms.
    7. Recruitment, preferably but not limited to, will be based on the priority area(s) of specialization within the department which are displayed on the website and are subject to change from time to time.
    8. The institute reserves the right to fill or not fill any or all the advertised posts.
    9. Mere fulfilment of the qualifications and experience requirement does not entitle the candidate to be called for recruitment process/seminar.
    10. Merely meeting the post-Ph.D. experience requirement for a post shall not guarantee the offer for that position/pay in respect of the selected candidates. A lower position/pay may also be offered.
    11. Applicants who are employed in Government, Semi-Government Organizations, autonomous bodies, PSUs must apply through proper channel and they must produce a "NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE" including a vigilance clearance and disciplinary clearance from their employer at the time of the seminar/interview. Failing which, such candidates shall not be allowed to attend the Recruitment process at IIT Gandhinagar.
